Lady of Tonatico.
The population of Tonatico is located in the southern part of the State of Mexico, near Ixtapan de la Sal, whose name means “Place del Sol”; was founded by the Aztecs in 1217 to worship in their temples to the Astro King.
The Spanish conquistadors arrived at this site in 1525, forming a new people: the missionaries Franciscans arrived in 1529. At that time brought from Europe an image of the Virgin Mary, now known as Our Lady of Tonatico.
This image was installed in a hermitage made of grass, while was being built the Calvary chapel, where he was placed on the Virgin while ended the building of the church where they would definitively.
Located in the center of the population, the temple was completed in 1660, since then has been made several changes and renovations.
In its inside the church account with paintings very interesting, the decoration in arcos, ceilings, pillars and walls is striking, which makes it in one of the most beautiful churches of Mexico.
